- Number of independent sources: A finding supported by five independent sources gets a higher confidence score than one supported by a single source
- Source authority: Findings from peer-reviewed journals, government databases, and established industry publications carry more weight than blog posts or social media
- Recency: Recent sources are weighted more heavily for time-sensitive topics like market data and technology trends
- Consistency: When all sources agree, confidence is high. When sources disagree, confidence drops and the disagreement gets flagged
- Specificity: Specific, verifiable claims (exact numbers, named sources, dated events) receive higher confidence than vague assertions

The Verification Pipeline in Practice
The research agent discovers a claim, data point, or assertion during its exploration of a topic. This finding is tagged as "unverified" and enters the verification queue.
The system identifies where the claim originated. Is it primary research, a citation of another source, or an unsourced assertion? If it cites another source, the system traces back to the original.
The system searches for the same claim or related data in other sources, specifically looking for independent corroboration rather than citation chains.
Based on the number of independent sources, their authority, recency, and consistency, the system assigns a confidence score to the finding.
High-confidence findings enter the knowledge base as verified facts. Low-confidence findings get flagged for additional research or human review. Contradictions are stored with full context.
